Counter-Strike (or CS), is an online multiplayer first-person shooter video game based on team play.
The game pits a team of terrorists and anti-terrorists against each other over several rounds.
Players score points by completing game map objectives and eliminating opponents, with the goal of helping their team win.

Since the release of its first beta in 1999, Counter-Strike has become the benchmark online multiplayer first-person shooter.
In 2007, almost ten years after its release, it was still the most played game on the Internet.

2. Success
The game, in version 1.6 since September 2003, has enjoyed great success since its official release on November 8, 2000.
At the start of 2009, Counter-Strike was still the most played first-person shooter game online.
12th in the 2007 Top 105 best FPS of all time.

Through Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and Counter-Strike: Source, this game has been able to update itself, even if enthusiasts preferred to stay on Counter-Strike 1.6

The new Counter-Strike will be released on August 21, 2012 and its name will be Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
